Ishida Camp Claims Melendez Was Greased

Melendez vs. Ishida

Melendez vs. Ishida

There are members of Mitsuhiro Ishida‘s camp that hold strong suspicions that something slippery was going on in the  lightweight’s recent rematch defeat at the hands of Gilbert Melendez as part of “Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg” on Saturday evening.

FiveOuncesOfPain.com has been able to confirm through the California State Athletic Commission that members of Ishida’s camp have issued a verbal complaint that Melendez was greased up in the pair’s August 15 bout in San Jose, California.

Of course, a verbal complaint is nothing more than that; a verbal complaint. No formal complaint has been issued at this time, and Ishida’s camp has five days to submit something in writing if he has the intent to.

Melendez was able to wear down and finish “The Endless Warrior” in the rematch, stopping the Japanese fighter in the third round via TKO, and avenging his first professional defeat in the process.

Stay tuned to FiveOuncesOfPain.com as we keep you up to date on any further developments in this story.

If you have a problem with a fighter greasing why wouldn’t you mention it during the fight to the ref, i dunno between rounds or something, instead of waiting until the fights over and crying about it. Kinda seems like a piss poor way of going about it to me.

What’s the Japanese word for “little bitch”?

So I guess we will all get to meet Ishidas mom soon? I was at the fight and it’s not like Melendez was ever really in a position that Ishida would have been able to submit him or anything of the sort. A lot of the fight was standing up with Melendez in control. Even if Melendez was greased from head to toe I don’t see what difference it would have made in this fight. People seriously need to stop crying about their losses or like sigmund said, if you suspect something odd, have the ref check the first chance he gets don’t go crying about it a couple days after you lose.

    fraz- the answer is “Ishida”

  • fanoftna33 says:

He didnt look like he was greased up, but maybe the fact that Ishida took him down so easily in the first fight and couldnt do it this time makes him think Gilbert cheated instead of just putting the time in like a true fighter.

I’m not buying the greasing complaint. Melendez came prepared; his lower stance and takedown defense reflected some hard work and a good game plan. That’s why he won.

    Completely agree.

Im not taking his side but who knows if he said something to his corner about it. The guy doesnt exactly speak english.

On another note did Gilbert look a lot bigger to anyone else besides me than he usually does, or do you guys think it was just him being in there with a guy who is smaller? thoughts?

ishida is a baby for this one.Melendez was obviuosly the better fighter this time around and ishida needs to suck it up like a man.

  • Crash says:

I don’t see anywhere in the article where it says Ishida says that Melendez greased. It says his team is throwing it out there but if Ishida truly believed it he could just file the complaint. Also you people all need to grow up, if a fighter is believed to have greased its best that someone say it so in the future other fighters can be aware of the fact and make sure the fighter didn’t grease. Also who stops a fight to say the other fighter might be greasing? Have any of you ever heard of that? No? How much worse would you have hated on him had he asked the ref to check? Exactly all you guys are just venemous haters. Guess what fighters do grease, they do use steroids, and they do cheat. Some get caught and some get away with it.
