Cro Cop vs. Mighty Mo set for DREAM 10

It’s official, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic truly has abandoned the UFC after his recent victory ovemirko_cro_copr Mustapha Al Turk at UFC 99 to compete for Japan’s DREAM promotion.

Filipovic has agreed to face off with heavy handed K-1 knockout artist Siala “Mighty Mo” Siliga at Dream 10.

The event is scheduled for July 20 in Saitama, Japan.

Cro Cop recently fell under an umbrella of controversy after Kevin Iole from Yahoo! Sports reported his intentions to leave the UFC after a one fight stint with the organization despite giving UFC President Dana White and UFC fans his word that he would continue to compete with the promotion.

The victory over Al Turk didn’t come without it’s own controversy as Cro Cop brutally gouged Al Turk’s eyes with his fingers just prior to the disputed TKO stoppage.

Mighty Mo has amassed a 14-9 record during his kickboxing career and a record of 3-1 during his time in MMA. He suffered his first mixed martial arts defeat on New Years Eve 2008 when he was caught in a Semmy Schilt triangle choke after going 3-0 with three knockouts to start out his career.

Mo is an extremely dangerous and naturally large striker with dynamite in his fists. He poses a real threat to put Cro Cop back in the loss column after three straight wins.

  • ultimoshogun says:

Crocop should come out of this with another win, all Mighty Mo has is that huge overhand right. Eventually I hope we get to see a rematch with both Overeem and Fedor.

  • edub says:

Im calling a Cro Cop win here. He looked a lot better than he did in his previous fights. Although not on the level an Overeem, let alone Fedor.

  • cocoonofhorror says:

no desire to see CC against top HWs ever again until he shows me alot more than the ability to put his fingers in your eye. CC/Fedor? are you joking? even Overeem would dismantle him at this point, and thats even a fight im sure he has no interest in. he seems to want to fight cans and newcomers these days.

  • meatloaf says:

What top heavyweight did he poke in the eyes?
I must have missed that fight.

  • cocoonofhorror says:

you didn’t see the al-Turk fight last weekend? i dont know who ever said he poked a top fighter in the eye, but i find it hard to believe you didnt even hear about the eye GOUGE in that fight…

  • JJ Docker says:

Come on, the eye gouge was accidental – they always are – and Cro Cop would have easily won that fight anyway. How Al-Turk got a second fight in the UFC is beyond me, so it really proves nothing about Cro Cops level of ability. He left the UFC because, as the cliche goes, there are no easy fights there. Whereas there are elsewhere. Might Mo, for example.

  • cocoonofhorror says:

he would have won the fight easily? OK, then lets just say he would win a rematch with Fedor easily, and then he can retire.

  • JJ Docker says:

What? I used the word easily to make the comment concise and clear. When you know, as well as everyone else, that by “easily won that fight” I meant a) he was winning the fight up until that point, b) he was the heavy, heavy favorite going into the fight and Al-Turk showed nothing up until the eye poke to suggest anything otherwise and c) I would bet a considerable amount of money that, had the eye poke not occurred, Cro Cop would have won that fight. And, anyway, more to the point; it was clearly accidental, it happens all the time with the fingerless gloves and it is the referee’s duty, not Cro Cop’s, to see and call a time out when there is an eye poke. Cro Cop did nothing wrong and finished the fight as he was supposed to. I’m not even a huge fan, but you can’t hate on him for what happened. And for what it’s worth, I agree that Fedor, Overeem and any other top HW would beat him convincingly at this point in his career.

  • cocoonofhorror says:

well in the spirit of making things concise and clear you made them false. he wasnt dominating the fight, shit the fight wasnt long enough for anyone to dominate, and no he wasnt a huge favorite. how much money you would have bet is irrelevant. accidental or not, it was anything but an impressive victory, over anything but an impressive opponent.

  • MMA-LOGIC says:

He poked Al-Turkey in the eye and then kicked Dana in the balls.
Love your work as always Crocop.
Hey Dana what did the five fingers say to the face?…SLAP!.
    LOL! I love it.
Cocoon I think you have a dislike for crocop that stretches back further than this fight, cuz to develop such a hate over this fight is a little extreme. Like you said it wasn’t long enough for anyone to show much. Refs fault really not Crocop’s. Crocop may not have been aware that his pinkies nearly poked a hole in the back of Turkey’s head.

P.S. In the red corner The Cocoooooooon of Horrorrr and his opponent in the blue corner JJ “The Concise” Dockerrr.

  • JJ Docker says:

Man I’m trying not to turn this into a pathetic, petty back and forth spat, but come on. I never used the word “dominate”, I used the words “winning the fight” – which he was, in my opinion; he was winning that round. He had landed more shots and avoided the take down. He wasn’t dominating, at all, and that’s why I never said he was. Yes, he was a huge favorite. How, the fuck, have you reached the conclusion that he wasn’t? Unfortunately its not me or, more significantly, you who gets to decide who the favorite is. Did you see the betting lines before the fight? Cro Cop at -500 and Al-Turk at +300. Oh I suppose there pretty close – it’s difficult to say who was actually the favorite in that fight. Moron. I never used the word “impressive” either, as, obviously, it was a distinctly unimpressive victory as he poked him in the eye. If you can read properly you will understand that my point was merely that had the eye poke not occurred, I believe Cro Cop would have still won the fight. Obviously it’s a very subjective issue, but I can offer my opinion and that’s it. If you’re of the opinion that Al-Turk would have won the fight, and that is why you are aggrieved about the eye poke, then that’s fine too and it’s your opinion. What would you have predicted? Al-Turk by head kick KO? Flying armbar? Moron.

  • cocoonofhorror says:

i dont give 2 shits about al-turk, im more concerned with everyone giving CC a pass on his bullshit. he is a paragon of virtue to all his fans, yet when he pulls this shit they look the other way. decker, you said he was winning the fight easily, did you not read your own post? i dont have any real hateraid for CC, i just hate how he is held to a lower standard than any other fighter by his fans. pull a fast one in negotiations? oh how clever and funny CC is! beat a can with an eye gouge? wow, how dominant is CC?! it never ends. he wants to fight in Japan because their arent any decent HW over there…(dont say Overeem cuz CC will never sign that fight, and DONT say Fedor, cuz LMAO if you think thats a realistic fight for CC at this point.

  • cocoonofhorror says:

also, al-turk landed the hardest actual punch in that fight, not counting CC’s 4 finger retina-blast.

  • cocoonofhorror says:

one last thing, when you are….” trying not to turn this into a pathetic, petty back and forth spat” dont insert childish name calling like idiot or moron. that way, you wont look like an idiot or a moron.

  • sigmund says:

I gained no respect for crocop in his last fight not only did he win controversially but it was nowhere near the dominating performance i was expecting against a mediocre at best al-turk besides his oldschool pride highkicks he doesnt impress me

  • Prototype says:

Give some respect for the Legend of MMA such as Cro Cop. He isn’t in best shape in the moment, but he just comeback from serious injury. He fight cautiously and he was damn nervous. Man just didn’t want a new upset. Because of that the fight wasn’t so good to watch. He back in DREAM in two reasons. He want’s two rematch’s vs Overeem and vs Fedor. His shape is gonna be better. You can count on that. He want last chance. And he go for it. UFC isn’t a big chalenge for him in the moment. If he is younger maybe he will look for some goal to score in UFC. But he isn’t and that’s why he go to DREAM. He never like cage so don’t be suprise for his departure. And Dana White sucks, he deserved

  • MMA-LOGIC says:

Split decision victory for JJ Docker because Cocoon threw a shot after the bell and had a point taken away.
P.S. If you are not impressed by Crocop look up his record people, results matter. His record is better than any current UFC HW.
