WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres (36-1) and top contender Brian Bowles (7-0) will meet on August 9 at WEC 42.
The news of the bout was made public today in a report by MMAJunkie.com.
The two fighters were originally set to meet at WEC 40 before Bowles was forced to pull out of the fight with a back injury.
Bowles comes into this title fight with seven consecutive wins, including four in the WEC, with all four wins coming by way of stoppage. He most recently fought at WEC 37 in January 2008, where he defeated Will Ribeiro via third-round submission.
Torres most recently defeated Takeya Mizugaki via unanimous decision in April, in an action packed five-round fight. Mizugaki was Bowles replacement at WEC 40. It was Torres’ seventeenth consecutive victory and the WEC bantamweight champion currently sits at No. 6 in Five Ounces on Pain’s pound-for-pound rankings.
WEC 42 will take place at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
