$60,000 was handed out to all of the winners of “fight night” honors during last evenings UFC 98.
The bonus amounts and recipients were made public last night during the events post-fight press conference.
Lyoto Machida was awarded with “Knockout of the Night” honors for his dismantling of Rashad Evans, Matt Hughes and Matt Serra both earned bonuses for their three round battle and Brock Larson‘s submission over Mike Pyle put some extra cash in his pocket.
Larson’s arm-triangle over Pyle was a little flashier in the minds of the UFC than Pat Hague‘s guillotine of Pat Barry or Yoshiyuki Yoshida‘s guillotine over Brandon Wolff, awarding Larson with the much sought after “Submission of the Night” bonus check.
Hughes and Serra’s grudge match lived up to it’s hype in the eyes and minds of the UFC, rewarding both with “Fight of the Night” honors. Hughes survived being wobbled by an inadvertent headbutt in the first to come back strong, winning the second and third rounds with strong takedowns and top control.
Machidas electrifying knockout of Evans not only earned the Brazilian the UFC light heavyweight championship, but he also came away with a cool $60,000 for his troubles.
