Jeff Curran vs. Takeya Mizugaki May Be On For WEC 42

One fighter is coming off a thrilling loss to WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres while the other has staged a war of words with him. Now they are looking to fight one another.

MMA Fanhouse is reporting that a bout between Japanese import Takeya Mizugaki and WEC veteran Jeff Curran is currently being discussed. Although nothing is official both fighters have expressed a desire to fight each other.

Mizugaki took Torres to the limit when they met at WEC 40 earlier this month and lost an exciting unanimous decision. Torres was originally slated to fight Brian Bowles but a back injury forced Bowles to withdraw from the bout a few weeks before it was scheduled to take place. A win over Curran would add even more legitimacy to Mizugaki and possibly put him on track to getting another crack at Torres in the future.

Curran a former featherweight title contender has lost his last three fights but in his defense he has lost to three extremely good fighters. He lost to former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber at WEC 31 in December of 2007 which was a championship bout. He then lost to Mike Brown who then went on to defeat Faber for the title. His most recent setback came at the hands of bantamweight prospect Joseph Benavidez at WEC 40 earlier this month.

WEC 42 will be headlined by Miguel Torres defending his title against Brian Bowles and is scheduled for August 23rd. At this time no venue has been selected.

No venue scheduled yet I have one… anywhere in New Jersey! UFC 101 is going to be in Philadelphia, so come on Zuffa do a little Northeast on slaught here! They want it regulated and legalized in NY and Mass. well money talks! Put on a few shows the governments in the respective states will see the revenue generated and have an easier time pushing it theough. Get some sense!
