The complete card for the UFC’s June 13 debut in Germany is almost complete in light of the recent news of a new welterweight matchup between Paul Taylor and UFC newcomer Peter Sobotta at UFC 99.
News of the matchup comes courtesy of a report by the U.K.-based MMA magazine Fighters Only.
After turning down fight offers for UFC 95 and UFC 97 due to injury, Taylor is now set to compete for the first time since a unanimous decision defeat against Chris Lytle at UFC 89 this past October.
The loss dropped Taylor’s overall record to 9-4-1 and his lifetime record in the UFC to 2-3. A veteran of England’s Cage Rage promotion, the five-year veteran holds notable wins in his career over Jess Liaudin, Zelg Galesic, and Edilberto de Oliveira.
Sobotta is a German native with an 8-1 record. Currently in the midst of a four fight win streak, Sobotta’s most recent fight took place in September during a KSW event in Poland. Facing Kerim Abzailow, he recorded a TKO at 1:12 of round 3.
UFC 99 will emanate from the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany and will be headlined by a 195 pound catchweight fight between former PRIDE middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva and former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin.
In addition to Franklin vs. Silva and Taylor vs. Sobotta, UFC 99 will also reportedly feature matchups between Mike Swick vs. Ben Saunders, Caol Uno vs. Spencer Fisher, Cain Velasquez vs. Heath Herring, Alessio Sakara vs. Alan Belcher, Stefan Struve vs. Denis Stojnic, and Todd Duffee vs. Mustapha al Turk.
