FiveOuncesOfPain.com reported earlier this week that rumors circulating on the Internet claiming Urijah Faber would be fighting Wagnney Fabiano at WEC 40 were false after a source close to Faber’s camp informed the site that the former WEC featherweight champion would not be competing in April.
However, Fabiano is indeed on the card and according to a new report by MMAjunkie.com, will be taking on Brazilian fighter Fredson Paixao.
Fabiano is riding a seven fight win streak that includes a third round submission victory over Akitoshi Tamura in his WEC debut back in December. The former IFL featherweight champion is 11-1 overall and will be looking to inch closer to a title shot in the suddenly crowded featherweight division.
Paixao is 8-2 in his career which has seen him fight for a number of promotions including Jungle Fight which is based out of Brazil. He hasn’t fought since stopping former EliteXC veteran Thomas Denny back in May of 2007. Paixao had signed on with the WEC in 2008 and was scheduled to face prospect Jose Aldo at WEC 38 but was pulled off the card for undisclosed reasons.
WEC 40 will take place April 5 and will emanate from a yet-to-be determined venue in Chicago. The event will air live on VERSUS and feature a main event pitting WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres against number one contender Brian Bowles.
Jeff Curran is also expected to take on Joseph Benavidez in his bantamweight debut and FiveOuncesOfPain.com was also the first to report a lightweight matchup between Ben Henderson and Shane Roller.
