Report: MacDonald vs. Quarry added to UFC 97

A middleweight matchup between Jason MacDonald and Nate Quarry is now set for UFC 97 on April 18 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

The news comes according to a report my MMA Weekly.

MacDonald, 21-11, last competed during the live finale for the eighth season of The Ultimate Fighter. Facing Wilson Gouveia in a featured matchup, MacDonald submitted to elbows at 2:18 of round 1. A ten year veteran of the sport, MacDonald is 5-4 in nine career fights under the UFC banner.

MacDonald will be fighting in his home country for the second consecutive year. During the UFC’s Montreal debut last April, the Edmonton native recorded a second round TKO over fellow countryman Joe Doerksen.

Quarry, 10-3, last fought in November at UFC 91 in November. Facing middleweight sensation Demian Maia, Quarry was forced to tap at 2:13 of round 1 after getting caught in a rear naked choke submission. The one-time UFC middleweight title challenger is 5-2 during his UFC career.

In addition to MacDonald vs. Quarry, UFC 97 will be headlined by Anderson Silva defending his UFC middleweight title vs. Thales Leites. Additionally, former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell will return to action against former PRIDE star Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

Other reported matchups for UFC 97 include David Loiseau vs. Ed Herman, Brian Stann vs. Krzysztof Soszynski, Luiz Cane vs. Steve Cantwell, Mark Bocek vs. David Bielkheden, T.J. Grant vs. Ryo Chonan, and Sam Stout vs. Matt Wiman.

he would knock ur teeth down ur throat king mah mah LOL imo,but i do hope quarry wins but yushin would own quarry 2,wtf at leites facing silva wtf should be yushin dana is being a fag the racist cunt

  • I agree but I can’t stand either fighter. Both just always seem weak in the ring when they are facing opponents that have superior skills on paper. I mean they look like scorn puppies! For example when McDonald fought Franklin. Credit for taking a beating but if you ever hear fight after fight that you proved you could take a beating chances are you aren’t winning much and may wanna take the athletic skills somewhere else! Great card though! Go ALVES this weekend

Quarry strong on the feet weak on the ground.

JMac strong on the ground weak on the feet.

I give it to JMac sub round 2

Alves fighting this week? hmmmm…. 2 fighter here left behind in Maia’s wake. Should be a good fight along with the stacked 97 card

  • Rich B says:

Was never a fan of Mac until his performance against Maia. He didn’t win, but it was a hell of a performance.

cool, i like nate quarry, dont have many opportunities to see him fight. and when i do not much to write home about :p, but i do think hes underrated and givin some more cage experience will turn into a good fighter. this should be a good test for him. rich franklin was to much, and calib was to little. so macdonald may be just right :)
