Renato Sobral vs. Matt Lindland set for “Day of Reckoning”

The latest match to be made official for Affliction’sDay of Reckoning” pay-per-view event on Jan. 24 is a light heavyweight encounter between Renato “Babalu” Sobral and former Olympic silver medalist Matt Lindland.

News of the bout became official earlier today in a report by’s Josh Gross in which Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio was quoted.

Sobral vs. Lindland joins the card’s previously announced main event between WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko defending his title against former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski.

According to Gross, former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort is also expected for the card in his second career fight at middleweight. However, the report states that a rumored bout between Belfort and DREAM middleweight Grand Prix winner Gegard Mousasi is unlikely.

Additionally, a light heavyweight fight between Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is slated to headline the undercard with a lightweight clash between Chris Horodecki and Dan Lauzon also rumored to be taking place. also previously reported that Jay Hieron is expected to take on Jason High in welterweight action.

matt lindland is the most boring fighter ever. he cant do anything but throw sloppy looping punches and wrassle his way to a snorefest L&P victory. one dimension fighters like this need to stop being on the main card.

im seriously reconsidering getting this next affliction ppv as all this shit about Beard comes out. affliction needs to buy Beard out and distance themselves from him as much as possible before he damages their image any further.

    Unanimous Decision 100% guaranteed.

January ’09 is going to be an amazing month for MMA fans. Just the main events alone, Fedor vs. Arlovski, GSP vs. Penn and Hendo vs. Franklin – unbelievable!

To the guy who said Matt Lindland is boring and only does lay and pray.

Matt Lindland has finished 8 of his last 10 victories with TKO or Sub. 14 of his 21 career victories were finishes. Anyone who thinks he is boring probably hasn’t watched many of his fights.

Randy Couture doesn’t finish fights as often as Matt Lindland but nobody seems to be accusing him of being boring. Neither of them are boring in my opinion, they are smart tactical fighters.
