Sakuraba vs. Tamura and Hansen vs. Calvancante announced for “Dynamite!!”

Two new matchups have been announced by FEG organizers for its combined DREAM and K-1 Dynamite!!” event to be held on Dec. 31 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

The new bouts concist of Japanese combat sports icon Kazushi Sakuraba taking on Kiyoshi Tamura with DREAM lightweight champion Joachim Hansen rematching Gesias “JZ Calvan” Calvancante in a non-title encounter.

Sakuraba, involved in some of the most storied bouts in Japanese history, has not fought since a June 15 first round TKO loss to Melvin Manoef at DREAM 4 during DREAM’s middleweight Grand Prix tournament.

Hansen won the DREAM lightweight title in the finals of its lightweight Grand Prix at DREAM 5 this past July as an injury replacement for finalist Eddie Alvarez. Facing Shinya Aoki, Hansen won following a first round TKO as a result of punches.

Calvancante, a top fighter with Florida’s American Top Team and considered one of the best lightweight competitors in the world, was eliminated from the tournament following a unanimous decision loss to Aoki at DREAM 2 this past April.

One other previously announced MMA bout for the New Year’s Eve MMA and kickboxing show includes Mirko Cro Cop taking on Alistair Overeem in a rematch from their September encounter at DREAM 5 that ended in a no contest after Cro Cop was the recipitient of multiple shots to the groin.

Anyone know if this will air on HDNET?

I am really getting tired of all these non-title affair’s that happen in Japan. If you have a Champion in you org, he should defend his title accordingly. This is nothing new so…I guess it’s to be expected every so often???

  • platypus says:

im jsut glad to see them fight. i believe titles and champs have more significance in the western world, as does losses =).

fighting is more important than being champ imo….otherwise we will have lots of titos running around IMO
