Swanson vs. Takaya added to December’s WEC 37 event

A featherweight attraction between Cub Swanson and Hiroyuki Takaya has been added to the undercard of World Extreme Cagefighting’s next week on Dec. 3 in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

The match was first reported by MMA Weekly.

Both fighters have spent a significant time away from the WEC in recent months, with Swanson not having fought for the promotion since a 35 second submission loss against Jens Pulver last December at WEC 31.

Since the Pulver loss, Swanson, 12-2, has competed once outside of the WEC on February 23 in Niles, Ohio. Facing Donnie Walker during a International Fighting & Boxing League event, Swanson recorded a third round submission victory.

Takaya has not competed since February following a first round knockout loss against Leonard Garcia at WEC 32 in what was his debut for the promotion. A veteran of Shooto and K-1 HERO’S, Takaya is 9-5-1 in his career with notable wins over Antonio Carvalho and Do Hyung Kim as well as notable losses to Hatsu Hioki, Genki Sudo, Gilbert Melendez, and Gesias Calvancante.

WEC 37 on Dec. 3 will air on VERSUS at 9 p.m. ET and will be headlined by WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres defending his title vs. Manny Tapia.

Another solid addition to another stacked WEC card. I really like Takaya, hopefully he can come out with a win over Swanson, certainly will be another tough test for both guys.
