M-1 Global has announced via its official website that it will be holding a press conference Thursday in New York alongside officials of Affliction Entertainment and Golden Boy Promotions.

Vadim Finkelstein is expected to be in attendance to represent M-1 while Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio is expected to be on hand as well. was unsuccessful in its attempt to get a comment from M-1 officials regarding the nature of the press gathering, however, AOL Fanhouse’s Michael David Smith is reporting that the two promotions will announce an extension of their working relationship.

According to Smith, it is also expected to be revealed that real estate mogul Donald Trump will be one of the “front men” for the upcoming reality television series Fighting Fedor that will feature heavyweight hopefuls vying for the opportunity to compete against WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko in a headlining match.

Five Ounces of Pain is planning to attend the press gathering tomorrow and we will be filing a full report.

  • Jason G says:

I wonder how much the guy that Fedor smashes will get paid. Hopefully they’ll pay his medical bills too.

  • Echolocating says:

Fighting Fedor is one step closer to viewing an actual execution on cable TV.

    Yay, capitalism. 😉

  • Venom says:

Why would anybody wanna compete for the right to get Murdered in the ring?

Hell, I can create a reality show too. “12 combatants will compete for the right to get thrown in a viper pit.” There! I gotta go call CBS! :-)

  • ihateemo says:

Haha, I remember when this show was announced during Randy Couture’s legal problems a MMAjunkie commenter said “one of the contestants will be Couture in a mask”. Too funny.

This doesn’t sound like a good idea for many reasons. Aside from the fact that Fedor and his management have been super flaky post-PRIDE, building a show around one individual is really risky.

Fedor’s on top now (arguably on top – whose he’s fought that’s any good in years – I don’t count Sylvia as a good fighter), but that can change in a heartbeat; see Lidell/Tim Sylvia/Wanderlei.

What happens when Fedor is yesterday’s news? There goes the show that’s got Trump funding it. Dumb idea.
