Fedor’s camp issues statement about next fight

In recent days there have been conflicting reports surrounding the scheduling of WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko’s next fight.

Speculation began to run rampant that Fedor will be competing in Japan for DREAM on New Year’s Eve following comments made during an in-ring interview at DREAM.6 this past Tuesday. Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio issued a response to the reports by saying that Fedor’s services had been secured for their planned January event.

The conflicting information has left a lot of fight fans confused as to when and where they’ll be able to see Fedor fight again. In an attempt to gain some clarity on the subject, contacted M-1 officials for an official statement.

“As of right now, Fedor is not scheduled to fight on New Year’s Eve in Japan,” pronounced M-1 Vice President Jerry Millen, speaking on behalf of Fedor’s management team. “He is contracted to M-1 and Affliction and he’s scheduled to fight in America for them in mid-January.”

  • Gygax says:

Hmm, let’s play a game. Who said this?

“As of right now, Pride has not been sold and will not be sold to Zuffa.”

That’s a paraphrase of course. But its basically what the same Jerry Millen said a mere couple of days before the Zuffa buyout.

Its also similar to what Monte Cox said about Fedor after “signing” him last October. Days later, Fedor agreed to fight at Yarennoka.

Its always tricky to figure out what Fedor’s next step really is until he steps in the ring.

  • Jason G says:

It sounds like Affliction is trying to keep him from competing on NYE. Can’t really blame them cause if he gets hurt they’re screwed.

  • banter says:

    ““As of right now”

  • I am glad to see that these guy are figuring out that there is enough money to go around when you co-promote events.
Affliction and EliteXC could make a really good team. One has the TV there other has the better fighters. Mix it all up in a bowl and call it an MMA stew

Oct 4th will be the tell tale sign of whats to come….. stay tuned

  • Dan says:

A lot of people like to rail on the UFC, but they do it right. There’s never any confusion as to where one of their fighters is going to be performing, and they don’t cancel fight cards a month out.

  • Nick Travaglini says:

Dream may not even be in business by New Years with the horrible Ratings they got Tuesday. This makes alot of sense. Thanks Sam.

  • Sabotage says:

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Fedor fighting in Japan come New Year’s Eve. Japan’s recent Olympic Gold Medal Judo winner, Satoshi Ishii, wants a fight with Fedor, and I am all for the matchup.

If Fedor in return wants the fight with Ishii, it certainly could happen. It is up to the fighter, not the promotions, with someone of Fedor’s status. But than again, the details and stipulations of Fedor’s contract with M-1 and Affliction will be the true defining factor.

  • Gygax says:

Nick – You are right, DREAM may be out by that point. But that does not preclude a few MMA fights happening on K-1’s traditional NYE Dynamite show. FEG has never really run a completely MMA NYE show. Yarennoka last year was not run by FEG.

A Fedor fight could easily still happen on the K-1 Dynamite 2008 show if Dream is gone.

  • DannyGio says:

Lets be real…….Fedor is the best heavyweight in the world. Lets now be honest…….Fedor has not made a true champions effort to beat all the other top knotch competition. Fedor fears no man, and rather I like him or not, could probably defeat any other heavyweight. But I despise the fact that he is not making it a point to fight Couture, Arlovski, or Barnett. Ya, I get it, you are the face of your country. But how better to represent your country that to prove its best fighter is truley the best in the world right now? As good as the great emporer is, he needs to realize that father time is greater. When he is 50, he will not be a hot comodity that all the other orginizations bid for. Don’t get confused, I don’t think he is in it for the money. From his interviews, fights, and demeanor, he comes off like a true warrior intent on domination. But through his managment, fate, or whatever you wanna call it, Fedor has failed to step into the ring with the other fighters who calim supperiority in the division. Ya he annihilated Tim Sylvia, but the job aint done there Fedor. Please do us MMA fans a favor and fight Couture and Arlovski, and quit the ‘fighting here and there” trend you are starting to set for the other champions……………..At this point, you might be a pussy scarred of Couture,
    but I doubt it……..

  • jdavis says:

So who are we to believe on what Fedor is doing NYE, Fedor or Jerry Millen and Tom Atencio?

  • Robert says:

DannyGio are you kidding?Fedor is not making an effort to fight the best. What do you mean that he won’t sign a contract with the UFC.If you have seen him fight and don’t realize he is the best you must be a fool or Dana White.Look at his list of victories Nogueira twice CroCop ,Arona, Semmy Schilt, Sylvia, Babalu, Herring, Randleman, Coleman twice, Fujita,Lindland and Mark Hunt. You like a lot of other people have become brainwashed into thinking if he does not sign a one-sided contract with the UFC that this diminishes him as a fighter.Look at Fedor’s resume compare it to any other Heavyweight and think about it.

  • Mark says:

brock lesnar will destroy fedor. give it a year brock will be the best heavyweight. fedor is the best heavyweight at this point but he is also a pussy picking up fights. cmon arlovski is waiting. they are in same org. why run away. dont even worry about the couture fight that will never happen. just fight arlovski let see what fedor is all about.

  • KTru says:

It seems to be getting worse by the day…….

Fedor having contract issues with UFC….so he is ducking Couture and Lesnar
Fedor got injured after destroying Sylvia… he is ducking Barnett and AA
Fedor may fight in Japan on NYE… he is fighting sideshow circus freaks

    bottom line
    No ONE will beat Fedor

  • Robert says:

Mark i can only assume everything that you stated was meant to be a joke. You can’t be that stupid or can you?

  • Josh says:

This “Mark” character probably thinks Fedor should win the ultimate fighter show to be the greatest….I think he needs to throw away his Tapout shirt, and get some UFC pom poms….And if Fedor is the pussy, why won’t Dana let him get a one fight deal to destroy any fighter they got? He would smoke, i repeat smoke, couture and lesnar! Hell, put couture, lesnar, fedor, and arlovski in a Dream style tourney, and set ’em loose. by the end of the night, fedor has the belt…

  • Nate says:

11 — Superman owns a pair of Fedor pajamas

    nuff said.
(I wonder if Dana White also has a pair of them? I heard he is a closet fan.)

  • DannyGio says:

Look, I agree completely that he is the best fighter, and I am by no means a Dana White nuthugger, but all thoses fighters he destroyed bar Sylvia he fought years ago. All I am saying is why not sign a three fight deal, fight Couture for the fans, and fight Lesnar to shut certain people up.

Brock does have some potential to be a good heavyweight. However, he will never beat Fedor, not in 5 tries. This point is not worth debating.

  • Mat says:

I spoke with Tom and he confirmed that Fedor will be fighting in the upcoming Affliction event. Chances of Fedor fighting for Dream on New Years is slim.

  • King James says:

Fedor is ducking Barnett. they never fought in pride even though they were the top 2 and now they haven’t fought either & they are in the same org and the top of their division. Fedor .. Stop ducking Barnett!!! He will kick your ass!!

  • Jez says:

fedor destroyed sylvia. altho tim is not the best opponent out there he has given lots of top guys lots of trouble and fedor simply annihilated him so after he destroys Randy and sends him into retirement (again) the whole world will know who the real pound for pound best fighter is. Randy hasn’t fought in over a year so how can anyone consider him better than Fedor? The last guy he beat was crap anyway. Gonzaga beat Mirko Cro Cop but big deal. Cro Cop was never that good anyway. He could barely defeat a Japanese hand picked can hahaha
