Reis vs. Quach title fight re-scheduled for Sept. 26 has confirmed that a fight for EliteXC’s vacant bantamweight title between Wilson Reis and Bao Quach that had been scheduled for Sept. 20 has been re-scheduled for Sept. 26 during the promotion’s next ShoXC event at the Chumash Hotel & Casino in Santa Ynvex, Calif. was the first to report the news on Wednesday.

Reis improved his record to 5-0 following a unanimous decision victory over Bryan Caraway during the SHOWTIME portion of EliteXC’s “Unfinished Business” on July 26. The 23-year renowned jiu-jitsu black belt is considered one of the top competitive grapplers in the world.

He’ll be facing an opponent in Quach, who improved his winning streak to nine following his unanimous decision victory against Mark Oshiro during ICON Sport’sHard Times” event on August 2. Originally known for being primarily a ground fighter, Quach’s standup has become highly respected under the tutelage of Colin Oyama.

The Sept. 26 event is also expected to feature bouts between heavyweights Jon Murphy and Shane Del Rosario as well as welterweights Matt Makowski and Erik Apple.

Wow – Makowski facing Apple – that will be another nice win for him if he finishes it!

  • Sam Caplan says:

Matt can do it. Apple is a strong wrestler, but if he doesn’t get the fight to the ground, I don’t see him being able to hang with Matt in the standup. He just needs to keep his combos brief and compact so that he doesn’t give Apple too big of an opening for a takedown. But Matt is great all-around so I wouldn’t count him out on the ground either.

  • Joseph says:

Makowski vs Apple is a real good fight and the winner will definitely have a BRIGHT future ahead of them.

  • Jesse says:

Sam, I know you know Matt too, he’s no slouch on the ground either. He’s fought off a few black belts and his hands (and legs) are honed weapons. I can’t wait for that fight, it’s going to be an all out war. Obviously being biased I’m pulling for Makowski as I train Muay Thai under him. But i still firmly believe he is the better fighter. He’s more calculated as opposed to Apple’s agro style. Kind of like the Florian/Huerta match-up. Similar temperments when fighting. It’s gonna be a fun one! :)
