l_39c37761be296b5e09dfe0d28bb5e965.jpgFormer NCAA wrestling champions Jake Rosholt, Johny Hendricks, and Shane Roller have all signed multi-fight contracts with Zuffa-owned World Extreme Cagefighting, has learned.

Rosholt, Hendricks, and Roller all wrestled for amateur wrestling powerhouse Oklahoma State and are all members of Texas businessman Ted Ehrhardt’sTeam Takedown.” Team Takedown signed the three fighters to exclusive management contracts in which the fighters draw a salary and have their training expenses paid for by Ehrhardt. In exchange, Ehrhardt is entitled to a share of the fighters’ earnings.

Rosholt, perhaps the crown jewel of the three fighter acquisitions by the WEC, is a middleweight fighter with a 4-0 record. The 25-year old was a three-time NCAA champion at OSU and was also a four-time NCAA All-American. He was recruited out of high school after winning three State championships.

The charismatic Hendricks is 3-0 in his young career as a professional mixed martial artist. The 24-year old welterweight was a two-time NCAA champion and a four-time All-American at OSU. He is also a former three-time Big 12 conference champion as well as a three-time State champion while in high school.

Roller, the oldest member of Team Takedown at 27, is 3-1 as a pro lightweight. While at OSU, he was a three-time NCAA All-American and a former Big 12 conference champion. He was a four-time High School State champion.

Debut dates for the trio of fighters have not been set. Although information pertaining to their first fights for the WEC could be made available within the next several days. The WEC’s next event will be held on Aug. 3 in Las Vegas and will be followed by an event on Sept. 10, most likely to be held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

Rosholt will likely become an instant contender for the WEC middleweight title that is currently held by Paulo Filho. Meanwhile, after several wins, both Hendricks and Roller could become title contenders in their respective weight classes as well.

In other Team Takedown-related news, Rosholt and Hendricks are scheduled to be featured on the VERSUS MMA-themed reality television show “TapouT” on Aug. 20.

I guess that kinda debunks the Dana White comment that they were going to get rid of the LHW and MW divisions in the WEC.

Well at least the MW division anyways.

  • Jim says:

What weight class is Roller in?

  • matt says:

awesome signings. this is big news for the WEC. what weights do they all fight at? i know you said rosholt is a MW but the other two?

  • Sam Caplan says:

Matt, weight classes for all fighters are listed in the article.

  • matt says:

Thanks Sam…did a skim first time through and musta skipped over them.

  • Jeremy says:

Wow, excellent signings by the WEC. I am very surprised they got Rosholt, a lot of organizations were supposedly interested in him, and with the WEC Middleweight division being rumored to be moved over to the UFC it didn’t seem like the ideal place for him.

  • LT says:

You do know that Shane Roller was NOT an NCAA champion don’t you?

  • Jeremy says:

I see is now reporting that Danilo Villefort is going to be Rosholt’s first opponent on the WEC show in Florida.

  • StayDown says:

Like the others have said, this is a huge signing for the WEC. I am lookign forward to seeing these guys step up and fight some tougher guys then what I have seen them fight already.

  • Dan Gable says:

These three are pu$$ies. I should come out of retirement and crack some heads.

  • Sam Caplan says:

LT, the headline does not say NCAA Tournament Champions. It says NCAA Champions. Roller is a former Big 12 Conference champion.

  • rob says:

Can’t wait to see Rosholt fight – -followed him in college – – absolute beast

  • […] broke the exclusive news earlier this morning that Team Takedown members Jake Rosholt, Johny Hendricks, and Shane Roller all have signed multi-fight contracts with World Extreme Cagefighting. […]

  • I’ve known Shane Roller and his family all my life. Shane is the most dedicated athelete I’ve ever had the privelege of knowing and training with. I have no doubt he will head straight for the title. Don’t think so? Just wait and see.

  • I just did an interview with Rosholt and have one coming up with Roller. They seem like great guy’s and with the opportunity (through Team Takedown) they have to just focus on training there’s no doubt they’ll get to the top.
