Report: More plans coming into place for July 26 EliteXC show on CBS

Josh Gross of has revealed several news details pertaining to EliteXC’s next likely show on CBS that is tentatively set for July 26.

The name for the show is expected to be “Unfinished Business” and while a venue has yet to be secured, all signs are pointing to the St. Louis market.

As announced this past Saturday during EliteXC’s “Return of the King” broadcast, the show will headlined by a EliteXC middleweight title rematch between incumbent Robbie Lawler and challenger Scott Smith.

Gross also confirms a report on that indicated welterweight Jake Shields is slated to appear on the show. Shields is expected to compete for EliteXC’s vacant welterweight title but he will not be facing Drew Fickett. Instead, his opponent could come from a trio of possibilities that include Paul Daley, former BodogFIGHT welterweight champion Nick Thompson, and current IFL welterweight champion Jay Hieron.

Another possible addition to the card could be heavyweight Antonio Silva, although his presence is still not a certainty. If he does end up fighting, IFL heavyweight champion Roy Nelson and Robert “Buzz” Berry are considered to be potential opponents.

The show could be rounded out by a women’s MMA bout that possibly might feature Shayna Baszler and Kelly Kobald.

A rumored EliteXC lightweight title rematch between K.J. Noons and Nick Diaz will not be happening on the July card because Diaz is slated for fight next month in Japan for DREAM against Hayato Sakurai.

According to Gross’ report, the show’s undercard is expected to be televised on SHOWTIME and could feature a 140 lbs. match involving Wilson Reis taking on either Bao Quach or Mark Oshiro. However, learned this afternoon that Reis could end up appearing on the CBS portion of the card and that his fight could involve a featherweight title.

We’ve also learned that EliteXC could be looking to return to the East Coast during the latter portion of the summer or in the early part of the fall.

  • Derek B. says:

    Seems like an impressive Card.

I think EliteXC has been putting on good cards lately….exciting fights too. Even though most of their fights end in the first round. That just seems like what the average MMA fan wants to see anyways.

  • Jesse says:

Put Wilson on the main card for a title!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • RT says:

I would like to see RAFAEL FEIJAO on this card.

  • eazye says:

Do I smell a lawsuit from the UFC over the name? UFC 49 was called Unfinished Business.

  • j says:

Reis would get schooled by Quach on the foot but Reis would have an advantage on the ground if he could get it there. Bao is a good wrestler.

I would prefer to see Shield fight “the Goat”, great technical battle.

I also think this is the prefect itm eto integrate the IFL guys.

  • Ant says:

Forget these silly card names and just call it “EliteXC: Lawler vs. Smith II”. That way I can remember who was in the main event for this card.

  • Evan says:

I agree Ant..I always have to look up the cards to see who was on it. UFC 60 to 85 is a blur they come so fast now.

  • Brent says:

Hope to see Reis on the televised card…

  • RichiesPop says:

Rei was very impressive in his last fight and we look forward to see him on the card.
