UFC’s huge announcement won’t be made tomorrow

UPDATE: Five Ounces exclusive – New York approval delayed. Click to read.

Dave Meltzer at the Wrestling Observer website is confirming that the UFC’s merchandising deals announced Tuesday on CNBC are in fact not the huge announcement promised by UFC President Dana White last week during an interview.

However, those anticipating that the announcement will be made tomorrow will be disappointed to hear that Meltzer has also confirmed that the announcement in question now is not expected to be made until next Tuesday.

  • Jim says:

At the rate this announcement keeps getting built up, if it’s not a three-round catch-weight fight between Obama and McCain with Bill Clinton as the referee, I’m going to be let down.

  • Evan says:

Die Hard fans will most likely always be dissapointed by these announcements.

  • mike wolfe says:

Smells like a delay due to last minute issues during contractual negotiations.

#2, that may be the most concise, spot on statement on the internet!

Barring the signing of a Fedor/Randy fight in the UFC, you are 100% correct, and we all know that isn’t happening.

  • DocWagner says:

Dana White is a pathological egomaniac…he needs extra days to dream up an announcement…this is purely a way for him to gather spotlight from other recent announcements from organizations outside of the UFC.

He is completely and utterly pathological. Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

  • Michaelthebox says:

My current guess: an integrated farm system involving TKO, Cage Force, and some other organizations.

  • Tim says:

#1 – That was so funny I almost fell out of my chair! I think that would be a great fight to watch. Although Obama being much younger AND notorious cheater Bill Clinton as the Ref, don’t think McCain would have a chance.

However, maybe they should have done the same with Obama vs. Hillary to decide who gets Pres and VP nomination… that would have beena good fight. My money would have been on Hillary for sure.

  • eazye says:

I’ve heard that Goldy and Rogan have been fired. Dana has hired Nick Diamond and Johnny Gomez from Celebrity Deathmatch. They start at UFC 86 which has a main event of Quinton Jackson vs. Forrest Griffin in a thunderdome of death match. Steve Austin is the ref. Rumor has it that Kalib Starnes is facing Michael Jackson in a moonwalk of doom match up at UFC 8,000

Seriously, I have no idea what to predict on this one. Fedor/Randy is so old by now that if I hear that again, I might drink bleach

  • mrkefc says:

Whats the bets nothing more interesting thatn a fight announcement, probbably Lidell vs Shogun at UFC88. Although would love to see Lidell vs that WWF wrestler who’s been badmouthing UFC/Liddel thinking he could compete at the top of the sport (Kurt Angle)

  • woooburn says:

i dont think it’s related, but apparently the bill to legalize mma in ny failed to pass today.

  • Zack with a ck says:

Like I said before, I think the toy thing WAS the announcement, and then they realized the potential PR backlash from something so lame (for fans, not the UFC). Now they probably have to make something up.

  • Jackyl says:

I think it can be only one thing. A sale. Most likely to Fox. Notice on CNBC he denied a TV deal. But there was not meantion about an outright sale. This is the only logical thing you would rent out a place for to tell your employees. If it’s less than that it’s going to be a big letdown. But Dana is good at building things up right? “This season of TUF the craziest fuckin season we’ve had yet. I’ve heard that like 6 times…..and it keeps getting worse…..

  • Mike Wolfe says:

It could be an announcement that White/Zuffa/UFC have discovered a cure for AIDS and cancer and brokered a peaceful solution to the Middle East and somebody would still write that they’re unhappy, cite it as proof that UFC and/or MMA is ruined, and that White is a jerk. It’s like having thousands of ex wives, for pity’s sake.

  • Evan says:

Zack that doesn’t make any sense. This isn’t “The Office” where you have to appease the masses with ice cream sandwhiches after you open your mouth.

  • Michael says:

  • sicmma says:

Seems the anouncement WAS going to be MMA coming to New York….but know that off.

New York moving to allow MMA would have been big, since it opens up the biggest market for live events, plus it would be a positive for those pushing other states to allow it
