Andrei Arlovski to be announced as fighting for Affliction tommorow; Donald Trump to become an equity partner

andreiarlovski.png was informed over the weekend that former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski finalized a non-exclusive contract agreement with the Affliction MMA promotion late last week. is now reporting that Arlovski’s signing with the promotion will be announced during a press conference that has been scheduled for Thursday in New York at the Trump Tower.

It is also expected that Arlovski will be confirmed as fighting Ben Rothwell during the promotion’s inaugural pay-per-view, scheduled for July 19 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

MMA Rated is also reporting that according to Michael D. Cohen, the special counsel to Donald Trump, Trump will be announced during the same press conference as having joined the Affliction MMA promotion as a significant equity partner. also heard from a source on Tuesday afternoon that former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz could be making an appearance during the press conference. While the UFC still retains a right of first refusal on his contract, our source indicated to us that Affliction is considered a leading destination for Ortiz.

damn affliction isn’t holding back, and if trump is involved
there’s a strong chance they’ll last for quite a few shows.

ultimately, though it still depends on the amount of revenues (ppv buys) they achieve, trump is a business man (and not everything he touches turns to gold) how patient he’ll be remains to be seen.

with his financial backing, its no wonder affliction for the time being can pay out the rumoured salaries.

you have to wonder how many ufc stars are going to get frustrated if people like babalu, lindland etc. are all earning upwards of $80k and up a show. the fact, sylvia is earning $800k still blows my mind.

despite elite xc’s strong ratings for the cbs show, i gotta say affliction right now COULD be the major challenger to the ufc.

  • mikee says:

Especially if the future cards are as promising as the one in July seems to be!!! Maybe they won’t be as stingy with showing the undercard fights too!! Although they did a good job showing them on UFC 84 which was a first in a long time.

  • Bad Monkey says:

All I’m waiting for is for Andre knock Rothwell TFO!!!!

  • Echolocating says:

Are they saving any big names for their next show? Then again, if they just have one show every six months or so and make sure Fedor is in every one, they could still have a viable business model. 😉

  • Andy says:

Who is the next UFC fighter that might defect? Any big name out there with one fight left on their contract?
Will Fedor’s pay be reduced next show if he gets easily beaten by Sylvia?

  • Mike Wolfe says:

Rothwell is an interesting first match up for Arlovski. Rothwell reminds me of Sylvia, although Sylvia’s a better developed fighter at this point. It’s a “must win” for Arlovski and Rothwell’s no pushover, so it’s worth watching.

  • paddiosf says:

It doesn”t surprise me Arlovski signed with Aflliction..With all the UFC fighters released from there contract, theree plenty of fighters to sign…I’m more excited about Affliction then EliteXC my only thing is I don’t have HDnet..

  • bjjdenver says:

Tito is coming to the presser?? Call the cops!!!

  • TFK says:

    Great card.

Too bad there’s no chance in hell there will be a second one. Affliction is gonna lose more money then the XFL.

  • Tommy says:

Ortiz and Trump like each other. I think Trump and Affliction together could be dangerous to the UFC’s monopoly. I’m willing to bet they do pretty damn well on their first PPV.

  • Evan says:

“Ortiz and Trump like each other. I think Trump and Affliction together could be dangerous to the UFC’s monopoly.”

Could we wait to see if someone lasts a year before we say this?

  • crewser51 says:

I was afraid of this… I wanted to see Andre and Mir fight for the number one spot then fight NOG for the belt… ah, too bad. Was is me or is Shaw the phukin worst thing for EliteXC to show him in public in regards to MMA? That D-Bag is comical… WEC put on a MUCH better show and they are the “developmental league” for UFC (Faber is a stud though)…

  • Evan says:

And do you know what a monopoly is? If their was a monopoly affliction wouldn’t be legal.

  • Zack says:

Love that you guys used the photo were the guy had Arlovski hold his wife’s purse

  • Kogepan says:

Its not a purse, its a men’s carry all.

And yeh, even if Affliction only lasts one show the fighters will have made more money compared to a career in the UFC.

Jardine would need to fight 80 times to make what Sylvia gets KTFO by Fedor.

  • Bradical says:

The Pitbull is bk, that’s all I care about. Seems like Affliction will have a good line up. I mean Sobral, Sylvia v. Fedor, now Andrei & Rothwell…def. worth the PPV buy. W/the name alone “AFFLICTION”, you will over time see more high named fighters migrate over. In due time Affliction will be a good product. Maybe not overnight, but then again the UFC wasn’t an overnight success as ’tis now. Remember lads, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Trial & error in every business model & growing pains hurt at first, but eventually you grow regardless. I can’t wait to see Pitbull fug up Big Ben!

  • Erin says:

My initial post here (after ANOTHER place drove me away with [expletive] this and [expletive] that).

That being said, The Pitbull lost his edge once he started getting rid of his body hair. The man was a beast in every sense of the word when he had the creepy trapezeus-hair, but got more and more cautious as more and more of his went away. Look at the picture above; he looks like soft like a girl.

Stop shaving/waxing, Andrei, and I’ll start taking you seriously again.
