Video: Brett Rogers elaborates on anti-Kimbo comments

  • Procannonfodder says:

I agree completely. Rogers would destroy Kimbo as long as he makes through the first minute of the fight, then Kimbo gasses.

  • William W. says:

Rogers is mighty high on himself despite having faced so-so competition. He is just inserting himself into Kimbo’s world as he knows it will be better exposure for himself. Rogers seems to forget that Murphy staggered him with a hard right in the beginning of the fight. If Kimbo tagged him like that, it would be lights out.

  • HexRei says:

ya, i can understand how the thumbs up looked a little like a tap (he kinda jiggled his hand while he was doing it) and at first i thought he tapped too but it was obvious a second later that it was a thumbs up. I think Rogers just couldn’t see very well from his seat.

  • HexRei says:

@#3 well, he took care of thompson a lot faster than kimbo did and with no contraversy whatsoever. i think rogers IS a better fighter than kimbo and it is weird to me for thompson to get the main event against kimbo when rogers just destroyed thompson. it does look an awful lot like they were worried that Rogers might actually beat their boy if they pitted them against each other.

  • bjjdenver says:

He may be a better fighter than Kimbo, but he conducts himself poorly and has been less than impressive while winning. Sorry, but Rogers is classless.

  • Nick says:

The more I see, the more I love the guy. He isn’t afraid to go against his boss and call it like it is, like how the rest of amercia sees it. Kimbo tapped, I saw it when it happened. Rodgers would definitely beat Kimbo, but so would alot of fighters. I kinda feel bad for Kimbo, he needs to be built up like all fighters are, but he is getting forced into the forefront by a greedy promoter looking to cash in on him while he is hot. Once Kimbo loses Shaw will drop him like a hot potato.
Kimbo fought like a MMA fighter who has only had 3 professional fights. No shame in not looking like Randy Couture while he is on the ground. he will get there eventually. Unfortunately he will not get the same learning curve that most fighters in his situation would because of Shaw. And I am not sure how innocent Bas Rutten is in all of this. he should be protecting his fighter a little better than this in my opinion. Everybody wants to make a buck Kimbo, you better start looking after yourself, no one else is going to do it for you, even your famous trainer who has you snowed.

  • Bad Monkey says:

Yep, I think if Rogers avoids a big punch in early in the first round he takes Kimbo out. I also appreciate the fact that he’s not afraid to voice his opinion publicly. He’s not Gary Shaw’s one-trick pony, unlike Kimbo.

I just hope they actually put this fight together soon.

  • bjjdenver says:

“I just hope they actually put this fight together soon.”

If i was Shaw, no way this happens soon. If anything, Kimbo needs to take a half a step back, get in a good fight, then possible rematch JT and if warranted, fight Rogers next.

While I don’t care for Rogers much, he would beat down Kimbo right now, imo.

  • Danny says:

Screw that. if ur gonna promote kimbo like i wrecking machine he should be able to destroy all fighters put in against him, right? Didnt gary shaw say something to the extent of possibly creating a HW title. and who would fight for it? EXC sucked major balls. its sad that the women had a better fight than anyone else

  • Danny says:

even justin mccully would whoop kimbo

  • JacRabbit says:

“Kimbo tapped, I saw it when it happened.”

Invest in a DVR buddy… I have the fight recorded, it was a thumbs up–in fact he also gave a thumbs up at the end of round 2 when JT was working on trapping his hand.

  • M1DAS says:

Brett Rogers? Come on, who has he really overcome in his career, he’s using this to promote his arrogant self, he’s out of shape and would definitely gas in the later rounds if pushed to a 5 Round fight. Do we really want to see a mma fighter to act the way he does to promote this sport? We should just bring in mayweather so they could make this sport a joke for serious mma followers. Talk is cheap on Brett Rogers part, I damn hope this fight happens soon so we can see Brett Rogers cry like a baby and probably making an excuse he wasn’t in shape or it was a lucky shot. He’ll definitely be known after fighting Kimbo, he’ll be know for Kimo knocking his @$$ out with a right hook.

  • GirlyGirl says:

Maybe YOU need to get a better DVR. I WAS THERE. Kimbo tapped.

He tapped at 2:47 in the first round. Go watch it again and get a clue.

  • People are insane.
Turn up your TV REALLY REALLY LOUD. You can hear Kimbo speak while giving the thumbs up….

Just because you were there doesn’t mean you know the facts…. There are several cameras to support the THUMBS UP THEORY

Brett Rogers vs Silva for the Belt

Kimbo vs (a smaller opponent with limited stand up)

Then if Kimbo wins…. KIMBO vs ROGERS or SILVA

  • GirlyGirl says:

Yes….he gave the thumbs up at the end of Round 2.

That has nothing to do with him tapping in the middle of Round 1.

A very nice, very obvious tap on Thompson’s arm when he had him in the guillotine. And Miragliotta staring right at it doing nothing.

  • saer says:

Obvious tap? O_o If it even is a tap he hits him once on the arm.. Is that obvious?

  • GirlyGirl says:

Did you watch it? It wasn’t once in the arm…it was 3 taps.

  • HexRei says:

GirlyGirl, I have a very high quality HD rip of that fight right in front of me. I just watched it for the FIFTH time. That is a thumbs up at 2:47. He jiggled his hand, but guess what? people do that when they are trying to get someone to notice their thumbs up.
In addition to his thumb being stuck straight up in the air the other signal that its not a tap is that his hand was about 6 inches away from Thompson’s arm during the entire thumb’s up. he never touched his arm, although it might have been hard to tell from one of those giant arena screens. Even Shamrock, at 2:47 says “He says he’s ok” clearly indicating that he also saw the thumbs up. I’m not sure what you’re looking at (maybe that awful youtube rip of the fight?) but it is very clear that he did not tap. It’s just not really a rationally arguable position which is why everyone is disagreeing with you.

Furthermore, although this is aside from the point that Kimbo did not tap, that was (imho) visibly a loose choke and was more just holding Kimbo there than anything else.

  • darkmetal says:

I agree with Nick, you have to love Rogers for stating what he believes, and likely irritating Shaw to no end.

  • Mike says:

“Brett Rogers? Come on, who has he really overcome in his career, he’s using this to promote his arrogant self, he’s out of shape and would definitely gas in the later rounds if pushed to a 5 Round fight.”

Dude, that’s 4 rounds more than Kimbo could last without getting gassed.

  • BoRocker says:

I think the best thing to do here is obvious….

    A. Neither Rogers nor Kimbo are exactly A list fighters.
    B. Rogers beat Thompson.
    C. Kimbo beat Thompson.
    D. Rogers smack talked Kimbo.
    E. Both Rogers and Kimbo will need a few weeks/months off having just fought.
    F. FIGHT – Rogers vs Kimbo on the next network card.

Get it done ASAP….it would be well hyped by the net and casual fans alike. If Rogers wins he steps up in the promotion and gets some respect as the dude that shut Kimbo down. If Kimbo wins it will at least help legitimize him to the real MMA fans.

    Let’s do it!
