MMAjunkie.com is reporting that Jamie Varner will make his first-ever defense of the WEC lightweight title during the WEC’s August 3 event in Las Vegas. Varner will defend the title against Marcus Hicks.
Varner won the title when he recorded a third round TKO over then-champion “Razor” Rob McCullough at WEC 32 this past February.
Hicks earned his shot at the title after submitting Ed Ratcliff with a guillotine choke at 1:42 of round 1 during WEC 33 this past March. The win improved Hicks’ career WEC record to 4-0 and his overall MMA record to 8-0.
Also on the card, Brian Stann will defend his WEC light heavyweight title vs. Steve Cantwell. Bouts involving WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit defending his title vs. Hiromitsu Miura and Cub Swanson taking on Hiroyuki Takaya are rumored as well.
