225px-book_cover_headshot_hi_res.jpg While this next piece of news will not interest the average fight fan, we do have a lot of people within the MMA industry that read this blog, and this blog post will certainly be of interest to them.

According to an SEC filing available on ProElite, Inc.’s corporate web site, Kelly Perdew has resigned as the president of

The filing indicates that Perdew’s resignation will be effective May 20. No additional information pertaining to his departure has been made available.

A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the 41-year old Perdew was the winner of the second season of Donald Trump’s “Apprentice” reality television show on NBC.

Anyone who hires someone who was on that show deserves to have their company implode and an audit by the IRS.

  • bjjdenver says:

You in line for a promotion now Sam?

    lol, j/k.

  • Evan, I could not agree more!!! Some of the people who were on that show including a couple of the winners were no better than some of the people that I have fired in the past myself…This resignation may be a blessing in disguise for that company….

    Sam Caplan…President?

  • Zack says:

Sam hasn’t posted to his proelite blog in a month and no longer crossposts. My tinfoil hat is picking up strong signals that he is no longer affiliated with proelite.

1 – I had no idea that a guy from the apprentice had been running PELE this whole time.

2 – This signifies the beginning of the end for PELE, or maybe even the beginning of the second act of the end. A lot of people do not know this, (and still others will consider this a statement of the obvious) but big changes in upper management are NEVER a good sign.

    PELE = Doomed

  • Torgo says:

Haha, I just realized how dumb my post was. It’s the president of, not pro elite. Self owned.

  • Zack – That would be amusing because the EXC Renegade DVD uses Caplan’s name and (presumed) image to pushing

I’m far from a fan of Trump’s Apprentice show, but Perdew is a very good businessman. He was pretty successful prior to winning the Apprentice and was a major cog in developing ProElite, of which EliteXC is a subsidiary. He spent little time in Trump’s organization, before opting instead to start a bunch of startups like ProElite and capital ventures. He’s a West Point grad who has a law degree and an MBA. The guy is a business wiz and IMO, this could be a significant loss for ProElite.

BTW, reports are that it was Perdew that gave Nick Diaz the go ahead to fight in Dream last weekend after Gary Shaw said he would not be allowed. Due to his military training in Ranger and Airborne school, he’s been a fan of the martial arts for quite a while.

Torgo – ProElite and is the same.

  • Sam Cupitt says:

Shit…that dude was president of Pro Elite?

  • Torgo says:

    Oh shit, really?

    How confusing!

Looks like my post was a critical failure.
