UFC 86: Frank Mir vs Justin McCully

That’s the word according to MMAWeekly.

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight champion Frank Mir will fight Justin McCully on July 5 in Las Vegas, sources close to both camps have confirmed. Bout agreements have been signed….

Obviously this looks like a fight to keep Mir busy and most likely get him another win on his way to a UFC Heavyweight Title shot in the future. Of course that also rests on whether Justin McCully will be able to stay healthy enough to actually get into the cage. We’re hardly at a David Terrell level but it will be about 16 months since his last fight, an absolutely dominating ground-and-pound decision win over Antoni Hardonk at Fight Night 9.

UFC 86 takes place on July 5th at the Mandalay Bay and will be headlined by a Light-Heavyweight Title bout between Quinton Jackson and Forrest Griffin.

So hopefully what this REALLY means…is that AA will re-sign and challenge Big Nog for the title…and if Mir beats McCully…he gets the next shot.

yeah i’d have to agree…looks like mir is getting an easier opponent here
to give him a three winning streak which could justify a title shot against nog.

wow…ufc really needs to sign arlovski, fedor and barnett.

probably won’t happen but a guy can dream

Can’t wait for Mir to get enough wins under him to have a go at Nog… I really really would like to see a Mir vs. Nog bout.

i don’t remember McCully’s fight against Hardonk being “an absolutely dominating ground-and-pound decision”
i remember that fight being HELLA BORING…

and Pat, i would love to see Mir/Nog also..

OH.. AND QUIT MAKING FUN OF POOR TERRELL!!!!!!

McCully vs. Hardonk was probably the biggest waste of 15 minutes of my life. I’m actually surprised that the UFC still has him under contract and didn’t release him. But whatever, when you have a HW division that is completely lopsided, who cares about having a HW that is worth about $3k.
