  • i stayed up until 2am to watch Baroni get gassed after a great first round.

Sorry Baroni but you are in the Ken Shamrock division in my eyes.

  • ttt says:

phil baroni is all talk, it’d be LOL if he got caught on the roids again

  • Rich S. says:

i LOOOOOVE how Baroni was talking about KO’ing Kala Kolohe the whole time.. that’s all he said.. I’M GONNA KNOCK YOU OUT.. and in all actuallity.. he was scared of Kolohe’s hands.. the very first thing he did was take it to the ground.. SINCE WHEN DOES BARONI TAKE FIGHTS TO THE GROUND?? either way.. he did some significant damage in the first round.. stomping, elbows, knees, punches.. but.. he gassed hella fast.. and got controlled for the rest of the fight.. and finally went down for the count..

this was supposed to be the hardest test in Hose’s career.. but.. i think it was the easiest.. especially since Baroni’s strong point is his stand-up.. and he didn’t even want to stand..

i don’t think it’s that hard of a test.. when the guy does good in the 1st.. but doesn’t throw another punch for the rest of the fight.. i mean, he REALLY WAS a walking heavy bag.. he wouldn’t punch.. at least he blocked.. otherwise that would have been wayyyy worse.. idk.. instead of giving Baroni to the greats like Shammy and Kala Kolohe.. they need to just give him a “can” or at least an easy opponent.. so he could actually pick up a “W” and work to get a winning record..

    what is he now, 10-9??
    sorry bro, but that’s bad..

This should spare us a Baroni/Shamrock rematch. Although I was initially pulling for The NY Bad Ass, he had me hollering “dumb ass” by the second round. And then, the energy between the crowd and Hose really got contagious. By the end, I was really happy for Kohole and the Hawaiian fans. Too bad Phil didn’t make it more interesting down the stretch.

  • Johnwall says:

    rich s.,

i have to disagree about the test for kala – when you have all that pressure, and when you are an underdog, unless you are randy couture or matt serra, the experience can be overwhelming.

  • Nuge says:

i found it really funny when the guy doing commentary called it “the biggest upset in MMA history.”

  • Rich S. says:

    agreed, Nuge..

that was one of the stupidest comments i’ve ever heard..

when i think of big upsets in MMA history.. i think of.. Serra beating GSP.. and.. Randy beating Big Tim the way he did.. Gonzaga beating Cro Cop.. etc.. not.. a guy with a losing record and bad conditioning losing to someone who is 5-1 [6-1, now] and has great hands and decent ground work..

  • Eric says:

The announcers were historically bad up and down. They should be embarrassed.

  • Brent says:

Easily some of the worst, most uniformed MMA announcing I have ever heard.

  • D says:

I only saw the Baroni fight, but:

    1. I will never agree with stomps and soccer kicks to a downed opponent.

    2. When did the WWF start sending refs to do MMA? The ref in the Baroni fight never separated them properly and didn’t stop them at the end of the 2nd round, the announcer guy was basically the bell. Ref just never seemed in control of the fight

  • Sam Cupitt says:

I have to agree with you D on stomps and soccer kicks. They just seem a little too brutal.

  • SteveXtreme says:

Is anyone gonna comment on the show that was actually impressive. I’m talking about Team Takedown’s domination. They were all devastating and showed they have the tools to make it in the Big Leagues. Pretty good show with good action in most of the fights.

  • Dan K. says:

I’d never seen an Icon Sport fight before this one so when Baroni started stomping his face and throat in the first round it caught me a little off guard. It kinda made me feel like I was watching pride again. Baroni had that fight in the first round if he didn’t gas so dramatically toward the end of the round. Not a bad event though, Hawaiians are tough fighters. I just wish there was another way I could have watched it other than streaming it from the internet.

  • Dan K. says:

Jeremy Williams looked like a beast too!

  • Mike Olson says:

On the commentators: Did anyone see when they first started, and one asked the other which other fights (other than Baroni) he was interested in seeing? The guy blanked and then wanted to re-shoot before his partner mentioned they were live… He just smiled. God it was funny!

Pretty funny, but very unprofessional throughout the webcast.

  • Jiu-Jitsu Guy says:

STEROID BOY Baroni lost, what a shame. LOL.

  • platypus says:

baroni needs to work on his grappling more and hit the gym less.

icon sport has the purest rules besides rio heroes. makes for awesome action, and makes guys think twice about stalling in bad positions on the ground.

how can people who like combat sports think something like a soccer kick is too brutal? so stomps and kicks have no place in a combat sport except in soccer?

  • Sergio says:

“so stomps and kicks have no place in a combat sport except in soccer?”

Um… soccer is not a combat sport?

  • Rich S. says:

yeah, and soccer kicks in soccer aren’t to another athlete’s head.. while he’s downed..
