Dave Meltzer from Yahoo! Sports names all 32 cast members for The Ultimate Fighter 7

In a recent article for Yahoo! Sports, Dave Meltzer takes a look at the upcoming 7th season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

In the article Meltzer discusses the impact the Ultimate Fighter has had on Mixed Martial Arts and to a greater extent, the UFC. He also has quotes from TUF 7 coaches, Quinton Jackson and Forrest Griffin regarding the skill set of the 32 cast members.

More than any season to date, the 32 names are largely unknowns, with nobody even at Danzig’s experience level. “A lot of guys came from good camps and were at a good level,” said Griffin, who estimated five or six of the 16 who made the house would survive on the UFC roster. “There wasn’t anybody I would call a standout. The show did a good job of evenly matching the fighters but there’s nobody who is going to upset Anderson Silva.”

Interestingly, Meltzer also reveals that the usually light hearted ‘Rampage’ and Griffin don’t get along very well.

The pairing of Griffin and Jackson makes you think there will be a lot of comedy, given the duo’s vibrant personalities. And according to UFC president Dana White, some does exist. But White said one of the episodes saw the problems between the two get so heated that it nearly turned into a coaches’ fight. Similar confrontations in Season 3 with Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz in 2006 led to two matches, which took the popularity of the sport to a new level.

In addition to all of that Meltzer named all 32 cast members. The list is as follows:

  • David Baggett (4-2)
  • Matt Brown (4-2)
  • Erik Charles (0-0)
  • John Clarke (5-2)
  • Daniel Cramer (0-0)
  • Tim Credeur (9-2)
  • C.B. Dollaway (6-0)
  • John Hall (3-3)
  • Nick Klein (3-0)
  • David Mewborn (0-0)
  • Mike Marrello (7-1-1)
  • Jeremy May (5-5)
  • Prince LaDonas Mclean (4-5)
  • Aaron Meisner (2-0)
  • Reggie Orr (4-5-1)
  • Matthew Riddle (0-0)
  • Jeremiah Riggs (1-0)
  • David Roberts (5-7)
  • Nick Rossborough (0-0)
  • Amir Sadollah (0-0)

32 fighters?!?! It’s gonna be one big tournament. I can’t wait.

  • HexRei says:

Apparently all fighters fight immediately for elimination, then the remaining 16 go on in the series. i guess to avoid some of the really lame ducks of the previous seasons.

  • Jeff Comstock says:

Clarence Dollaway (0-0) is probably CB Dollaway (6-0) who has fought a couple times on HDNet.

  • Brandt says:

Its gonna hurt the show by not having any notable guys. I wonder how real these “near fights” are between Griffin and Jackson. They are both capable of acting and its not breaking news that the TUF cast members from the past were told to stir the pot and create artificial drama.

  • Joe P. says:

I disagree w/ Brandt. It doesn’t matter if these guys are notable or not. I think it makes it better if they aren’t. It’s going to be one heck of a season and w/ Forrest and Rampage as coaches, they will make this classic! And artificial drama or not, both coaches will get in the octagon this Summer, beat the crap out of each other, and shake hands afterwards. I love this sport!

  • Matt C. says:

Dante Rivera’s moustache is way more pimp than Mazzagatti’s. If your from Jersey, you’ve seen this dude fight – and win.

  • Eric says:

I wonder what happens when these guys get to the house, are overweight and can’t cut enough in time for their fight. From what I’ve heard the fights are immediate, so if they show up out of shape, does their first round opponent get a bye into the house? We’ll know in a month I guess.

  • Kelvin says:

I think the fighter’s were told to arrive IN SHAPE because they would be fighting immediately…so them out of shape shouldn’t be a problem.

  • Eric says:

Ahh I see. I wasn’t sure if the immediate fights were going to be turned into a surprise to boost ratings.

  • Zantetzuken says:

    I can’t wait!

  • Keenan says:

for sure they tld em to come in shape ready to fight and ud be a fool not to

  • Rich says:

they sure have a bunch of (0-0)’s this time around..

  • Sergio says:

8 fighters with no pro fight experience and 4 fighters with losing records.

In all honesty, that doesn’t bother me at all since you have to WIN to actually make it into the house.

Most of those 12 will never get the opportunity to throw a gaming table into a pool, it seems like.

  • Mike Wolfe says:

I have a hard time seeing either Rampage or Forrest picking fights or causing trouble. Both of them seem to grasp the concept that pros fight for dough in the Octagon and only knuckleheads fight for free outside of it.

  • Evan says:

    I agree Mike

Rampage is pretty mature now and while Forrest comes off as goofy he is a smart guy.

  • Andrej says:

Hey Sergio, Check FcFighter database or Sherdog database and then tell me how many of those fighters have 0-0 records. lol at naming Patrick Schultz 0-3 instead of Pat Schultz 7-1. Very funny!

  • Sergio says:

I just went by what was posted.

Like I said, I don’t really care due to the revamped rules of having to win a fight to actually make it into the house.

  • Simco says:

    #14, #15

It’s just marketing. Either straight up lies or it actually does happen but it’s forced.

  • mike wolfe says:

We’ll see how it develops. I’m enough of a fan to watch the whole thing. With those two guys and their senses of humor, I’d expect a lot of funny remarks and practical jokes. That’d be a change of pace for the show.

  • shawn says:

the pat schultz that is on the show is from mass, and his record is 7-1-1, a very good fighter , my pick to win it!

  • garrett says:

iv seen dan simmler in grappling tournaments and if his ground game holds up he wont be a joke. u never know how a grappler will hold up until u see him fight but i cant wait. his ground game is nasty… hes very composed and ahead of his opponents.

  • Eric says:

pat schultz’s only loss is against a fighter over 40 pounds more than him. He usually fights at 185 and the fighter listed from the loss is 237. It was also for the title belt so not that much of a dissapointing loss.

  • john says:

matthew riddle doesnt have any pro fights but he is a stud. he took 2nd at naga after traing for half a year and then won it. he was a national champ in high school and a state champ. his hands may not be as good as some of the cast members but im sure he will be able to hang with anyone on the show wrestling and heart.

  • Chris says:

ok. Which Pat Schultz is on the show? The one (Patrick Schultz) from either Germany or Holland that hosts the 0-3 record & is a PRO-wrestler OR the one (Pat Schultz) from Mass. that has a 7-1-1 record? Please present proof when posting…

  • Reggie says:

Chris, Its the Pat Schultz that trains out of Sityodtong in In Boston…

    1. He’s from my hometown (same neighborhood)

    2. I trained with him at Cape Cod Fighting Alliance until he left for the show:

    3. He’s in the trailer (The fighter they show when it says “Think Again”, you can’t miss those frosted tips LOL!!)

Pat is the real deal, tough kid from a good family. great stand up and can hold his own on the ground. Funny dude too, he should make the show even more interesting. Watch out for “THE RAINMAKER”!!

  • Chris says:

Reggie, thanks for the info on which Pat Schultz is on the show, it was getting rather confusing. The Schultz from Boston does indeed look like a more promising TUF participant than the other Schultz rumoured from Europe.

    Thanks again for your help!

  • Reggie says:

No Problem Chris, Also I watched the promo in slow motion and you can see Pat smashin some dude towards the end of it.. its just for one frame but I paused it and if the dude doesn’t get KO’d I’ll be surprised

Look for “THE RAINMAKER” to do well on TUF 7

  • Chris says:

Nice!! Can’t wait to watch it. I wonder how they pick the first few fights…? Out of a hat? I don’t see all the guys with good records all making the house. But you never know… & I did read something on about Paul Bradley (who has a good record)… Guess we wil see soon enough. Thanks again Reggie.
