Thales Leites Breaks Hand, Pulls Out of UFC 81

UFC.com‘s Thomas Gerbasi reported just moments ago that UFC middleweight contender Thales Leites was forced out of UFC 81: “Breaking Point” due to a broken hand.

A broken right hand suffered in training Monday has forced middleweight contender Thales Leites to withdraw from his UFC 81 bout against Nate Marquardt. Leites, winner of three in a row in the Octagon, will undergo surgery on the hand later this week.

There is no report as to who will be the replacement to take on Nate Marquardt. Be sure to keep checking back for tons of UFC 81 News.

Well dammit. I was looking forward to this fight. UFC 81 is a pretty lackluster card so far.

I don’t think it’s lackluster to be honest. It’s been these types of events that have been the most exciting this past year.

Maybe Lutter should step in and face marquardt? Only logical fight as he had been training for franklin

  • Rashad #1 says:

Or hell have Franklin fight Marquardt.. would love to see Ace lose two in a row

  • dizzle says:

Franklin isn’t ready to fight again.

He needs to just star in the 3rd Ace Ventura movie and just leave MMA.

Gotta agree that Lutter might be the most obvious opponent for Marquardt. Or if Yushin Okami doesn’t have anything set up yet.

  • jaydog says:

Another possibility is Leben. He may be a little more disciplined in his training these days, but he’s still the kinda guy who would take a fight on short notice (and deliver a slug-fest).

  • Rashad #1 says:

#6 Yushin Okami is rumored to be fighting Evan Tanner

  • Drawzz says:

Is Martin Kampman still injured? I would like to see him get back to the octagon…plus he already has a win over Leites
