American Gladiators new season debuts tonight on NBC

American Gladiators 2008

The new version of American Gladiators will be hosted by Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali. It airs tonight on NBC. I seriously doubt the Hulkster can hold a candle to the original voice of AG, Mike Adamle.

There is a new crop of Gladiators, with fearsome nicknames, just like the original cast:

  • Crush – EliteXC’s Gina Carano
  • Siren
  • Militia
  • Stealth
  • Mayhem
  • Titan
  • Fury
  • Tor
  • Hellga
  • Venom
  • Justice
  • Wolf

Also they are bringing back most, if not all of the original challenges/events…

Feel free to post your most super favorite American Gladiator memories here.

  • Evan says:

My God I used to love this show as a Kid. Right after Saturday night live if I remember right. I can’t wait.

Cheesy but a fun show, I can’t wait.

  • Adam Morgan says:

Is Siren going to be a deaf chick again?

  • MT says:

Anyone else remember Billy Worth who kicked some serious ass as a contestant (and who can also be seen in The Lost Boys as one of the vampires with no lines)? He was awesome..

  • eazye says:

Adam, I saw a commercial during the NFL playoff games yesterday and she was definitely speaking with no problems in the promos so I doubt its the same person.

  • bubbafat says:

You think they would have designed new costumes. The guys look like they just had their nails done, and a couple of the women look like men(not Gina of course). I would have liked to have seen a different approach. Like MMA, it could be promoted as a sport and not just a spectacle. It takes real athletes to get through the gauntlet in a descent time, so they should treat them as such and not just as gameshow contestants.

  • R says:

I actually attended one of the tapings of the show. Gina looked a little apprehensive throughout the whole thing. Almost like she felt uncomfortable playing up to the crowd. Considering that she fights as a profession, I’m sure it felt a little weird looking directly into the camera as the director yelled “look angry!”

It was a fun experience though. They’ve tweaked a lot of things, like adding a huge water pit that people fall into after they lose.

  • Brent says:

Uggh – it’s pretty horrible so far – it was fun to see Gina pull guard during the Pyramid event though… and she dissed her MMA opponents by saying the woman in the Joust was her “toughest fight in quite some time”.

  • Gong says:

    Fact of the day:
The guy beside Gina used to be a porn model. Hurrah! I kind of refuse to watch this show. The Apprentice is soul sucking as it is, I can’t bother with more reality TV per week.

  • Wang Chung says:

i must be a stick in the mud, cuz this show screams LAME to me.

  • Wang Chung says:

hey gong, if you think apprentice sucks your soul, you should spend some time watching the new reality show called ‘crowned’…eye stab reality television..

  • mike wolfe says:

Wait a minute. There was a girl in the showed named Siren who was deaf? In honor of the old show maybe they could have a blind guy named Eagle Eye or a guy with no package named Lucky.

  • Mike says:

    terrrrrible show

  • Sam Cupitt says:

I remember Australian Gladiators… with Vulcan and Tower. There was also the really annoying lady co host who did the post event interviews.

“Tower knocked you off the podium in the opening seconds. Was that your plan?!”

“Your ACL deteriorated. Was that your plan?!”

  • Evan says:

Take it for what it is, a brainless show that is just cheap entertainment.I liked it. It was fun.

  • Mr. Takedown says:

Evan, I loved that show as a kid too. When some random contestant got CRUSHED by two Gladiators in powerball I’d laugh my ass off… cause the other contestant then got to stroll to the center bucket for double points.

And besides who DIDNT want to use those crazy airguns and shoot those missiles at the target above that tennis ball shooter thing. Every kid with a nerf gun imagined themselves doing that.

I read on wikipedia that this season some contestants get F-ed up. Broken femur, torn ACL. That’s some serious shit. I wonder if NBC is paying those medical bills?

  • The Bean says:

Im sorry, but i loved this show, i grew up watching it on Saturday morns. This was always a little corny, but Hulk and Laila’s interviews were painful at times. Gina looked supa hot, and i freaking loved seeing her pull guard as she tumbled down the pyramid!

  • RBeezy says:

I watched it and I was disappointed. It’s more campy and over the top than the original. The gladiators managed to be schlocky cartoon characters without being compelling.

And after 15 years are you telling me that they couldn’t come up with new challenges?
