EliteXC signs ex-UFC middleweight Scott Smith

EliteXC has issued a press release announcing the signing of Scott Smith to a multi-fight contract.

Terms of the contract have not been disclosed and the promotion has not announced a debut date.

Smith, a middleweight, was a part of the cast for the fourth season of The Ultimate Fighter. He is probably best known for his fight against Pete Sell during the live finale in which he knocked Sell out when he was on the verge of being finished himself.

Smith was let go by the UFC several months ago when the promotion decided to cut many fighters that were under contract to the promotion.

  • NickRE says:

Wondered what happened to that guy. The fight with Pete Sell was one of my favorites of all time.

  • Jeremy says:

Several months ago the promotion decided to cut many fighters that were under contract? When was this? And do we know who else?

I seriously don’t remember a period where a good number of guys in the UFC were suddenly released.

  • Sam Caplan says:

Jeremy, it was a couple of months guy. A lot of the guys were even being used. According to the fighters I spoke with, over 50 fighters on the Zuffa roster had their contracts accelerated. Guys like Scott Smith, Carmelo Marrero, Diego Saraiva, and a host of others.

  • Jeremy says:

Thanks Sam. 50 fighters, that’s alot wow! With the amount of guys they have though I guess they can probably afford to do that without much of a problem. I just didn’t remember anyone ever reporting that a bunch of guys getting released.
