Jake Shields signs “long term deal with EliteXC” is reporting briefly on their home page that top 10 welterweight Jake Shields (19-4-1) has signed a long term contract extension with EliteXC.

As of yet there are no details on how long or how many fights the contract is worth.

Shields would have come off contract after tomorrows fight against Mike Pyle and he was stated to have been “looking at the UFC over EliteXC” due to the Zuffa organisation being the home to the large majority of top 170 pound talent.

blahg…i find this extremely disappointing. who doesn’t want to see shields against the top 10 UFC WW division? i’m having a hard time coming up with names for his future opposition that are going to test him like he’d be tested in the UFC. booo.

  • Jeremy says:

Definitely was extremely important to get him re-signed. He’s easily one of, if not their best talent in EliteXC. But I am suprised that Shields didn’t at least test the market and see what was out there, that would have seemed like the best move out there for him and the way he was leaning from prior stories. They must have offered him a really good amount of money that he just couldn’t say no or even maybe to.

  • Da Twin says:

Shields is really good but i dont think he can compete with the UFC top welterweights, Yet: GSP, Hughes, Kos, John fitch, Sanchez, Serra these guys are the best i think if Jake wants to be a champion he needs to stay with EliteXC!!!
