Shogun talks about his future

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has an interesting interview posted on The interview is about halfway down the page after a talk with brother, Murilo “Ninja” Rua. In the discussion, Shogun talks about the following:

The belief that UFC fighters are better than Pride fighters. He specifically points out UFC light-heavyweight champion, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson:

“It is just coincidence as I have read some things on some websites talking about this subject. That UFC fighters were always better than PRIDE fighters but those people forgot Quinton Jackson. I think that the guy came to the UFC after 3 terrible defeats in PRIDE (to me and Wanderlei Silva twice), now though he has the UFC belt”

When asked about a return to the ring, Shogun commented:

“I will be back fighting in February or March, I hope so!”

From reading the interview, Shogun definitely sounds reinvigorated and ready to re-establish himself as a top fighter in the MMA world. It is definitely too early to write-off such a dominant fighter. Should Rua be able to put together a couple of impressive wins in 2008, a Shogun vs. Rampage battle could be huge at the end of next year.

  • Tom says:

Using Shogun’s fighter math logic (Shogun/Wanderlei > Rampage being the UFC champ, which means Shogun/Wanderlei are better than UFC fighters) then one can simply point out that since Rampage beat Dan Henderson who beat Wanderlei, Rampage must be better.

All arguments about which fighters were better (Pride or UFC) is ridiculous no matter which organization you pick. It’s the fighters not the orgs and it’s foolish for Shogun to enter the pointless argument.

  • Gabber says:

He also mentioned he’d like to step into the cage with Tito as his next fight, I think it would be a decent match. I think Tito will get cut up like Rampage did in the Shogun fight, but a decent fight nonetheless. With Tito as the opponent you know it’s going to get a nice sized audience and give Shogun good exposure to the casual fans.

Seems like a win-win for the UFC.

How many fights are on his contract, anyone know?

  • dizzle says:

he’s just gotta get use to the cage.

  • paddiosf says:

I like the fact that he isn’t making excuses for his Lose….He”ll be back, remember Shogun is a Young Fighter….Tito probaly wants to fight him to lay on top of Him…..with that Boring Ground and Pound old-school fighting….

  • Sam Cupitt says:

Woah has some pretty good interviews on there.

Id like to see Shogun and Tito, seems aboot the right time for both of em to go at it. Shogun takes it tho.
