Brad Imes wins by gogoplata… again

brad_imesThat big Texan from the 2nd season of TUF, Brad Imes, won his second bout in a row by gogoplata. That is ridiculous considering the first fight that ended by gogo’ was in 2006 by Shinya Aoki at PRIDE Shockwave.

Imes took out Bo Cantrell in 55 seconds at King of the Cage “Arch Rivals” this past weekend. This was Imes fourth straight victory via submission.

In case you have no idea what this move is or why this is a unique way to end a fight, read on…

The gogoplata is executed from a guard. Specifically, it is usually executed from a “rubber guard,” where the legs are held very high, against the opponent’s upper back. The fighter then slips one foot in front of the opponent’s head and under his chin, locks his hands behind the opponent’s head, and chokes the opponent by pressing his shin or instep against the opponent’s trachea. Eddie Bravo 101…

  • Tanner says:

That version of the gogo that eddie is demonstrating in that pic is called the Locoplata. The difference being that he is grabbing his toes/foot with his left hand and using his right foot to press up on his left heel while pulling down on his opponents left arm.

The gogo is done a bit differently as you can tell by the way diaz and imes have both done it.

  • I second that motion Tanner.

The shin bone connected to the… throat bone…… the throat bone connected to the TAP bone.

  • Tanner says:

Billy – It is indeed not a good place to be in especially if you can get the loco because of the force you’re using from your own foot.

I don’t do MMA, but i do jiu jitsu and Eddie’s game has greatly influenced mine. If you do Jiu jitsu and haven’t picked up Mastering the rubber guard you definately should.
