Shameless Promotion: This week’s Inside the Cage; Jon Murphy back in action; Serra on Mauro’s show; and much more!

I apologize for the lack of updates recently. I’ve been backlogged with work and I’m in the process of trying to meet multiple deadlines.

There are some things I wanted to make everyone aware of:

– I just wanted to remind everyone to create a bookmark for my blog at: There’s a lot of stuff there that hasn’t been posted here. There are also RSS feeds for the blog now. I’ll also be doing a chat on the forums next Thursday. All you need to do is be a registered user of the site to attend. Registration is free. Nick Diaz chatted yesterday.

– There will be no “Inside the Cage Radio” this week due to scheduling conflicts. I apologize for the interruption. Matt and are working on some options that will allow us to deliver shows on a more regular basis. Stay tuned.

– One of those scheduling conflicts has to do with a Combat in the Cage show that will be taking place this Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, NJ. Tickets are still available. If you’re planning on attending, leave a note here and maybe we can meet up. Also, Matt and I plan to cover the event. The card has undergone a few changes but is still pretty strong and includes Jon Murphy from ShoXC/EliteXC defending his Combat in the Cage Heavyweight Title against Jason Dolloff. Aaron Miesner will also be taking on Chris Reedy while Wilson Reis faces Diego Jimenez. There will be a lot of fighters on this show that you’ll be seeing on the big shows in the months and weeks to come. My wife trains at Aaron’s school (Philly MMA/MFS) and Wilson teaches and trains out of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu United, where I currently train. Good luck to both!

– Art of War 4 is scheduled for Oct. 27 in Tunica, Mississippi. The main event will be a heavyweight clash between Matt Thomas and Mike Wessell. Mauro Ranallo will be handling the play-by-play duties. Speaking of Mauro, he’ll be having Matt Serra on as a guest today on Fight Network Radio at 3 p.m. ET on Sirius Channel 186 or at

Dan Henderson, Josh Barnett, and Ken Pavia will all be guests on tonight’s edition of Inside MMA with hosts Kenny Rice and Bas Rutten on HDNet at 9:30 p.m. ET.

Stephen Quadros will be pulling double duty next Saturday in LA when he performs for two separate bands in one night! “The Fight Professor” will be drumming for Becky Curtis and the Blu-Tones at 10 p.m. PT and 7th Sun at 11:30 p.m. PT at Rusty’s Surf Ranch on the Santa Monica Pier.

– On a personal note, I just wanted to take the time to thank everyone out there who has called me; e-mailed me; and contacted me via,, the Underground forum,  or this site during the week. The amount of support and well-wishes I’ve received this week has been amazing! I’ve tried to reply to everyone personally but I think I might have missed a few call backs or a few e-mails. If you haven’t received an immediate response from me, feel free to contact me again. I will get to it, I promise.

Sam – I didn’t know you trained with Jared Weiner. I took a couple of classes with him a year or so ago (he is a Lloyd Irvin black belt) and was at his MMA debut at Combat Sports Challenge. He and Wilson have ungodly BJJ. Wilson can take the back like no other. I rolled with him a couple of times and despite the size disadvantage it was me who needed to be saved.

  • Sam Caplan says:

Both of them are unreal and it’s awesome getting to train at Jared’s school. I’ve only taken a couple of his classes but my son goes 3-4 times a week and has gotten really good in a short period of time.

  • Brent says:

Haha – in your ProElite blog pic you look like a inner city school teacher.
