Gilbert Melendez reveals opponent for Playboy show

“Gorgeous” George Garcia of TAGG Radio has confirmed to Five Ounces of Pain that former Pride lightweight Gilbert Melendez revealed on the show that he’ll be fighting Tetsuji Kato from Shooto on Strikeforce’s next show scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Playboy Mansion.

Already announced for the 9/29 show is Josh Thomson vs. Adam Lynn and Joe Riggs vs. Eugene Jackson. Bobby Southworth and Daniel Puder will be on the card in separate bouts but opponents have yet to be announced.

I also wanted to remind everyone that they can check out George, Goze, and Frank Trigg on TAGG Radio each Monday through Friday.

  • This will be a good test for Gilbert but I think it’s safe to say his hand will be raised at the end of the night. It would be nice to see a win like this catapult Gilbert into the UFC where he can tangle with the best 155’ers out there.

  • is the place to get your mma news hot off the press every monday-friday from 9-10 am pst. i know i do

Dude- i think Gilbert kills this guy! I hope to see him against the Punk or even Jorge Masvidal next.

TAGG is imo,the best show out right now- its like the man show meets mainstream journalism!!
I had a feeling when Gilbert was on they would announce his opponent.

Another good scoop for the boys at TAGG.

I would like to see Gilbert win that fight.
The guys at Tagg are one of the best shows to listen to. I listen to them everyday and I’m in the combat chat room also.

I agree with “Gorgeous” George Garcia on this one…It will be a test for Gilbert, but what fight isn’t to a fighter. However, I feel that his hand will be raised at the end of this bought.

The news generated from by Frank “Twinkle Toes” Trigg and “Gorgeous” George Garcia is pretty darn accurate because they know what they are talking about (or just know how to BS a great deal); Also, they’ve gain the trust of the individuals they are interviewing, and would not disrepect that trust by stating what would not be true or inaccurate.

I too had a feeling that when Gilbert was on the air that an annoucement to who his opponent (Tetsuji Kato) would be for his upcoming fight. RIGHT ON! Gilbert take him out…

No disrespect toward Kato’s impressive record, but I really think this guy peaked in the late 1990’s. El Nino is on a tear and I expect him to make short work of last decade’s Kato.
Agree or disagree you can find me every weekday from 9-10 am pst in the combat chat live.
