Brazilian Top Team implodes

Once one of the top MMA fight camps in the world, Brazilian Top Team appears to be on the verge of total collapse. The web site has confirmed rumors that Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has left BTT and the site is also reporting that Paulo Filho and Mario Sperry are out of the fold.

Here’s the report, according to

Rumors that Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira has left Brazilian Top Team have been confirmed. Nogueira now heads his own team and does his training at other gyms. A split between Murillo Bustamante and Mario Sperry has resulted in Sperry’s ouster. Paulo Filho and others that made the core of the team have also left. BTT now is being controlled primarly by Murillo Bustamante and Bebeo Duarte.

Shogun has injured his knee and could be out of his upcoming UFC appearance. We should know more on the severity of the injury in the next few days and whether or not it will have any impact on his fight schedule.

One of the big issues I’ve heard attributed as to why Nogueira has left is attributed to the fact that he signed with the UFC without consulting Bustamante.

Well that has certainly been rumored for a while so it wouldn’t be a surprise that’s for sure. I wonder where the guys who have left BTT will end up. I know we have seen Minotauro training with Anderson Silva, I wonder if he will eventually become part of his Black House squad, or as mentioned start his own gym.

Did we ever hear what Bustamante was exactly mad about? Is it just that the deal with the UFC wasn’t discussed with him or that he actually signed with the UFC?

I’m sure he wanted in on the negotiation so he would know how much of a cut he would get (that’s how all the “teams” work) – Nog did an end run around him so he wouldn’t have to pay out.
